The global data model for real estate

International Building Performance & Data Initiative

IBPDI is the first global, industry-wide data and performance standard for real estate – a Common Data Model for Real Estate. This single source of truth offers advanced data-driven insights, enables benchmarking portfolio performance, integrates industry-specific KPIs and allows  effective decarbonization strategies.

Unleash the power of the data you already have

IBPDI is open, free and standardised. It enables a harmonised and secure way to exchange and connect data for more agile and sound decision making. Thanks to the CDM you will be able to overview factors in every aspect of a real estate portfolio – from maintenance to finance.

The result of an exceptional cross-industry collaboration

IBPDI’s Common Data Model was made possible by the cooperation of key players in data solutions and real estate. Co-founded with innovation driver Microsoft and co-developed with the real estate experts from the RICS, pom+ and BuildingMinds, this new standard is a comprehensive and efficient solution that was developed with the entire industry’s needs in mind.

To ensure the specific needs of each specific real estate company are met, we’re inviting experts and members to become part of the project and send us any feedback they may have on the Common Data Model for Real Estate. By listening to voices from every sector of real estate, we’re developing a solution for the industry – by the industry.

What we achieved so far

Solving data compatibility
for an entire industry

When transferring and translating data between systems, departments or even service providers is a very time and resources-consuming process. The integration of a Common Data Model provides a new level of consistency and coherence for industry-related data. As a shared, industry-specific data language, it allows data clusters to coherently communicate and cooperate.

Connecting portfolio management with key performance indicators, such as energy usage and current occupancy, makes it possible for all departments and service partners to work using a common foundation for information – and that provides data-driven insights for more agile decision-making.

Through the knowledge of international industry experts such as the RICS, our Common Data Model for Real Estate makes the current state of industry standards compatible with the shared data language of the Microsoft Common Data Models

Currently, real estate companies are limited in owning and sharing building-related data, unnecessarily complicating new business opportunities and creating an overview that’s fractured and segmented. Our Common Data Model for real estate provides the foundational framework to break down data silos, harmonize clusters, and unite the complete spectrum of real estate applications.

Consistent and clear data is made usable across all internal and external software applications. Departments ranging from finance to maintenance, corporate or investment are able to share their data seamlessly with one other, enabling benchmarking, data-driven insights and efficient decision-making.

Creating the bridges
that bring data together

Unlocking the potential
of truly unified data

Whether for decision-making, better compliance or more agile management, real estate experts need a digital single source of truth that consists of real-time data. Integrating data seamlessly offers new insights and better integration for portfolio and asset management. IBPDI’s Common Data Model for real estate provides a foundation for the future development of platforms and applications that can capitalize on the new interoperability of data clusters to create holistic overviews of portfolio performance.

The data can be integrated – both internally and externally – without lock-in or license, fully customizable and is even free to commercialize. Moving building and portfolio management into a new era, this enables key players to address coming challenges for the industry, such as implementing ESG strategies or agile risk management.
